چکیده

We have determined the mass function of loose groups of galaxies in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey. Loose groups of galaxies in the LCRS range in mass from M ∼ 10 12 M ⊙ to 10 15 M ⊙. We find that the sample is complete for masses in the interval 8 · 10 13 − 8 · 10 14 M ⊙. In this interval the mass function of LCRS loose groups is close to that found by Girardi et al. (1998). Comparison of the observed mass function with theoretical mass functions obtained from N-body simulations shows good agreement with a CDM model with density parameters Ω m = 0.3, Ω Λ = 0.7 and the amplitude of perturbations σ 8 = 0.78. For smaller masses the mass function of LCRS loose groups flattens out, differing considerably from the group mass function found by Girardi and Giuricin (2000) and from mass functions obtained by numerical simulations. We suspect that this flattening is due to incompleteness in the LCRS loose group catalogue caused by selection effects, although we cannot fully discount the possibility that it may in fact be an intrinsic property of the loose group mass function. AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies

We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...

DASTWAR: a tool for completeness estimation in magnitude-size plane

Today, great observatories around the world, devote a substantial amount of observing time to sky surveys. The resulted images are inputs of source finder modules. These modules search for the target objects and provide us with source catalogues. We sought to quantify the ability of detection tools in recovering faint galaxies regularly encountered in deep surveys. Our approach was based on com...

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

EMISSION-LINE OBJECTS FROM A PRELIMINARY UKST OBJECTIVE PRISM SURVEY

A visual search has been made of four fields using United Kingdom 1.2m Schmidt Objective Prism plates with a reciprocal dispersion of 1 180 A/mm at HP. Such plate material is ideally suited to searches for emission-line galaxies. We present a catalogue of 53 emission-line objects, which comprises 45 galaxies, where individual HI1 regions are resolved in 16 bright galaxies; 8 are emission li...

Evaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies

The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...

ماده تاریک یا دینامیک دیگر؟

Allowing the energy of a gravitational field to serve partially as its own source allows gravitating bodies to exhibit stronger fields, as if they were more massive. Depending on degree of compaction of the body, the field could be one to five times larger than the Newtonian field. This is a comfortable range of increase in field strength and may prove to be of convenience in the study of vel...
